On August 5, 2022, A horrific crash occurred here in West Hollywood. According to local reports, five people have been killed and eight hospitalized as a result of a car crash in Los Angeles. The collision occurred at the busy intersection of South La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue in the Windsor Hills area of West Los Angeles at 1:30 p.m.

Fox News reported that it involved six to seven vehicles, three of which caught on fire.

A pregnant woman, her unborn fetus, an infant child, and two other adults were killed in the crash. Mercedes-Benz traveling at high speed, ran a red light and started the crash. Officials believe that the high rate of speed was a major contributing factor in the severity of the crash. The fire that ensued destroyed the vehicle and claimed the lives of all four occupants.

The impact of the collision shot car parts into the air and immediately set some of the six cars on fire. Three vehicles caught on fire and sent a plume of heavy smoke into the sky, video from the scene shows. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed that the vehicles were deliberately set ablaze. The drivers and passengers in those cars were rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes is believed to be one of the people sent to the hospital with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to witnesses, the Mercedes was going well over the speed limit when it crashed into the other cars. “It was just horrifying,” said one bystander. “The sound of the crash was like something I’ve never heard before.”

Witnesses also report that the police and firefighters only arrived after a 20-minute delay, resulting in many passengers being trapped in their cars as they burned. This intersection is known to be a high-accident zone, with frequent accidents caused by reckless drivers.

This is an absolutely horrible experience, but unfortunately, it’s not unexpected here in Los Angeles. Drivers routinely run the yellow/red light at this intersection, so two cars are almost always involved in a collision. You have to be aware that just because you’ve got a green light doesn’t mean you can roll. If you’re ever in a crash like this you should probably read this guide to multiple vehicle collisions.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but they say that excessive speed is likely a major factor. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed what happened to come forward and provide information to help them piece together what led up to this devastating accident.

The aftermath of the crash “almost looks like a war zone,” with crushed and burned-out vehicles and car parts scattered throughout the street, CHP said.
